According to numerous historical documents, the Prüm Family has held property and cultivated vineyards found in the villages of Bernkastel, Graach, Wehlen and Zeltingen since 1156. Today’s S.A. Prüm Winery was founded in 1911 when Sebastian Alois Prüm received his share of the old Prüm Family’s vineyard holdings and began to build it into a modern, contemporary winery. The remainder of the property was shared by six other Prüm Family members. S.A. Prüm is a founding member of the Association of German Premium Wineries (VDP), a consortium of Germany’s top producers. Raimund Prüm, head winemaker since 1971, employs organic fertilization, hand-picking and strict yield control to ensure the utmost quality.
The Wehlener Sonnenuhr ("Sundial of Wehlen") Riesling Kabinett 2007 is a single vineyard wine with low alcohol content, high acidity and some residual sugar. On the palate this wine is very intense and persistent with notes of citrus, peach, white and yellow flowers and great minerality. The finish is long and complex. It is always a great idea to try your Rieslings with raw walnuts, especially if they have a little age. Retail price is $24. Excellent wine. |
