Planeta is one of the most important and respected wineries of the spectacular island of Sicily. They produce world-class wines carefully crafted with both indigenous and international varieties matched with the extraordinary diversity of Sicilian soils. Planeta "La Segreta Bianco" 2006 is a blend of 50% Grecanico, 30% Chardonnay, 10% Fiano and 10% Viognier, all sourced from the family's first vineyard. This wine amazes me every time I taste it. It is a bold white wine with plenty of structure and many different flavor profiles. The diversity of this blend gives to the wine an unusual complexity. On the nose La Segreta Bianco 2006 is fresh and aromatic with intense notes of minerals and citrus fruit. On the palate the wine is round and structured with very intense flavors of melon, peach and great acidity. The finish is long and satisfying.
I consider it one of the most versatile white wines I have ever tasted. It can be used as an aperitif or it can be paired with fish dishes, sushi, grilled vegetables, light pasta dishes and all different kinds of appetizers. The retail price is around $14. Excellent value. |
