Ceretto is one of the traditional producers of Barolo and Barbaresco in Piedmont. Barbaresco Asij is produced in the commune of Barbaresco, where 4 hectares are leased. The vineyards are located between 260 and 280 meter altitude with a southwest exposure. They were planted in 1965 to the Lampia clone of Nebbiolo on 5BB rootstock in a clay-based soil with some sand and silt. This 2004 vintage has a classic garnet-red color and aromas of withered flowers, forest soil and red fruit. On the palate this Barbaresco is very persistent and balanced. It shows great acidity and minerality, well integrated tannins and good complexity. Retail price is around $40. At this price point is certainly one of the best and most traditional Barbaresco I have tasted. Enjoy with game, mushroom dishes, hard-textured cheeses and polenta.
